IRN and QR Codes Explained: Verifying an FBR Invoice

July 12, 2026 · by aiwatech

Every FBR-compliant invoice carries two important markers: an Invoice Reference Number (IRN) and a verification QR code. Together they prove the invoice was reported to FBR.

What is an IRN?

The IRN is a unique identifier assigned when an invoice is successfully submitted to FBR. It ties the document to FBR’s records.

What does the QR code do?

Scanning the QR code lets anyone confirm the invoice’s authenticity against FBR’s system — useful for buyers claiming input tax.

Do I generate these manually?

No. A good invoicing platform requests the IRN and QR automatically at the moment of submission and stamps them onto your invoice template.
